SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and perform different tasks through a command line. The protocol is popular with many knowledgeable users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be employed for a variety of things with regards to the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server permits it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for practically anything - you may install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different Operating System too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though many service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

When you have a cloud website hosting account with us and you want to manage your content remotely via SSH, you could receive SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan doesn't provide this feature by default, you can easily add it with several clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You could also pick what password you would want to use, given that it does not have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared several Help articles in which you can find all of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, as well as examples of how they're used. In addition, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you could add it via the hosting CP if required - even only for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the feature with a single click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you may type the password that you'd like to use, because it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you could also change it as frequently as you require. The full list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a couple of examples. An extra function after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You will be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which VPS hosting plans you select when you sign up, as all of our plans come with this feature by default. You won't have to include or activate anything by hand - as soon as your web server is prepared and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect and start working on your sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts inside the physical server, you will be able to do anything you would like without any restrictions. You could set up any app you require and that shall run on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases fast and easy.
