The definition of “hosting” does not describe one service, but a set of services which offer various functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, as an illustration, are two individual services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most of the people think of them as one single service. Actually, every single domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the e-mails for the domain name. As an example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a website or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind using separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

With a cloud website hosting plan from us, you're going to be able to create or change the A and MX records of your domain addresses and subdomains easily through our sophisticated Hepsia hosting Control Panel. Editing the default records will take 2 clicks and the setup of a new record takes only a couple of more clicks, so in case you have never dealt with such matters, you will not encounter any difficulties. We also have a large help section that will make things even easier. If you'd like to change your e-mail provider and you have to set up several MX records in addition to the default two, you may choose their priority i.e. which record will manage your emails first when someone sends you a message. Normally the new provider will tell you what these values need to be. With our shared plans, you're going to have complete control over your domain addresses and subdomains and you're going to be able to manage their A and MX records effortlessly and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our semi-dedicated plans, will permit you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to edit any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you 100 % control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
